Making sense of subjective responses and feelings with objective data
Selecting the correct running shoe can mean the difference between winning and losing. For decades, athletes have selected their footwear based on very simple – and limiting – criteria: does the shoe feel comfortable?
Our new MindSense technology collects powerful biometric data as the athlete tries different types of running shoes and then visualises these underlying subjective responses and feelings to create next-generation insights. These can then be harnessed to support the development and product selection process and, ultimately, the final sales decision.
Results through research
Our MindSense research has enabled us to demonstrate it is possible to record runners’ brain signals, even in challenging free-running environments, and develop advanced algorithms and a toolbox that enables the retrieval of meaningful brain data.
This is used to access validated insights into how different shoes trigger different biological reactions (via EEG, ECG, EMG and IMU monitoring), showing the brain is acutely aware of which shoes a runner is using, through identified brain patterns and qualified differences. MindSense unlocks powerful insights that support the runner and their performance.
